SIBA Monthly Meeting – Tyson Hermes
April 18 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm
Tyson Hermes will cover the topic of splits! Have you wanted to increase your apiary without purchasing packages or nucs from other beekeepers? Then this is the talk for you. Tyson will explain a simple way of splitting a winter-survivor colony to produce 3 or 4 (up to 8!) new colonies! Splits also help facilitate a robust honey crop and is a form of varroa control as it disrupts the brood with what is called a brood-break.
Tyson Hermes is a Catholic, a husband to Julie, a dad to 3 kids, a beekeeper for 14 years, a construction business owner, a ski instructor, and an Erlanger city councilman. When Tyson started beekeeping, he was mentored by Jim Orem and Paul Lageman. Since then, Tyson has mentored dozens of new beekeepers, and frequently gives talks to generate interest in the craft. Tyson’s primary goals in beekeeping is to produce nucs for sale, and to help new beekeepers get started.
